Teen killed after RTV being driven by 8-year-old boy veers off road

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An investigation is underway following a single-vehicle RTV crash that killed a 13-year-old boy on Hawaii Island.
The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday in North Kona.
Police said the 13-year-old boy — identified as 13-year-old Maxim Beregovoy — was a passenger on an orange Kubota RTV X900, which was being driven by an 8-year-old boy, when it veered off the road.
It then struck a rock embankment and overturned, throwing Beregovoy off the RTV in the process.
Kubota’s RTV series are designed for navigating rough landscapes, but police said the boys were traveling on Puukala Road when the crash happened.
Beregovoy was rushed to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.
The 8-year-old boy sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene before being released.
An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Officer Adam Roberg at (808) 326-4646, ext. 229, or via email at [email protected].
This marks the 25th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 15 at this time last year.
